Boris

Boris is the culmination of time spent making images together with my partner Boris Thorpe, in the shared living space of his family home. It is a response to and adoption of the collaborative ethos of Charlie Engman & Kathleen Engman's photographic partnership documented in C. Engman's 'MOM'. Here, the photographic shoot is a cite of escapism, absurdity and play, where in the words of Kathleen Engman "you don't have the weight of being yourself".

The resulting images form a visual game of hide and seek. Boris is both prop and persona... real and performed... hiding in plane sight and too close to be seen clearly. Exploring Engman's language of photographic parody and fashion inflicted images to explore objects, poses and spaces in a house full of nostalgia. This collection of imaginative fragments echoes the performative mischief that is our relationship. The choice to display such as a images down-scroll website was intended to replicate the action of the 'infinite scroll' often encountered when viewing images of loved ones digitally (camera-rolls & and social media).
